Tips

These simple tips can help you keep your children safe online.

Tip #1: Keep up with new technologies

The best way to prevent an online catastrophe is to know what you're up against. Get yourself a Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, AIM account etc. and learn what they can do. After you have a good grasp of what they are for and what they can do, talk to your children about them and the proper way to use them. You may even find you enjoy them just as much as your children.

Tip #2: Add your children as friends

No matter what the social networking program, it will always have some sort of friend system. When you are friends with someone, you gain access to the content they are posting and receiving. Knowing you are their friend and can see what they are doing can prevent your children from getting into trouble in the first place.

Tip #3: Know what programs are installed on your computer

Illegal downloading can get you in serious trouble. Know what programs do. Anything labeled as a P2P(Peer to Peer) or Torrent Sharing program will most likely point toward illegal downloading. Get them an iTunes/Rhapsody account and get them the iTunes store/Rhapsody cards to restrict their buying, rather than using your credit card.

Tip #4: Restrict their use to specific times

Your children will be less likely to do anything devious online knowing that you are aware they are online and checking up on them.

Tip #5: Check your browser history

Check your browser history on the computer you child uses. This will show all the sites they have visited. You can also see what they have been searching for in major browsers.

Tip #6: Watch what they are doing and let them know you are

Our software can completely monitor a computers activities from keystrokes to website views to programs used and inform you on a regular basis. Knowing what they are doing can help you confront them if they are having problems and if they know you are watching, they will be much more conservative in their online activities. You can also check to see if they have more than once account on Facebook or any of the other social sites. They might tell you about the one they have in their name, but they could have another they aren't telling you about. You can find out.
